Chassity CO 4 w/Dr. Rios

Date/Time/Location: Saturday, 23 July at 9:30 pm AEST (Pre-recorded Zoom)

Teacher: Dr. Rios (Grammar)

Again, Dr. Rios opened the class with music and singing!  ðŸ˜†ðŸ˜‚😂

He stopped the music and took attendance.  Dr. Rios briefly set the agenda/grammar topic and began to delve into the grammar lesson.  The lesson focal points were gerunds and infinitives.  For the linguistic framework, he utilized a gerund practice form.  The activity/form appeared to be level-appropriate and easy to understand.  It was cool to hear Dongwoon interact in the class! Dr. Rios clarified the usage rules for gerunds and infinitives throughout the activity.  He asked the students why they either the gerund or the infinitive to assess for grammar concept retention and to reinforce rule usage. One of the students answer: “I chose that one because my heart told me to.”  ðŸ¤£ðŸ¤£

From a time management standpoint, Dr. Rios effectively managed time by leaning into this activity to increase synthesis…although I anticipated another activity 20 minutes into the lesson.  His teaching style appears to be very focused and streamlined…definitely not as involved as the lesson plans that I’ve submitted to Professor Kim! 😆

After 30 minutes, Dr. Rios opened this app called Kahoots and allowed the students to play the game from their phones.  I loved this as it was a very fun way reinforce the grammar concepts in a fun and engaging way!  All the excitement happened with the game while he played music by Destiny’s Child, “Say My Name”.  Nostalgia. 🥰🎶  It was awesome to see Dongwoon leading the scoreboard…he was on fire!  Super proud of his progress!

Overall, Dr. Rios’ classes are a prime example of simplicity equals effectiveness, particularly with Group 3 students.
