Homework first! We
reviewed and discussed AK's homework including edits to his resume and cover
letter and his research of two different vocabulary words from our prior lesson
that sounded very similar. AK is a good
writer and his use of English is quite proficient. I can see the cultural
aspect of communicating is one good area for our focus. Following the homework review, we continued
our work on GRE specific vocabulary words and idioms. We began with idioms and
viewed a video clip of the Andy Griffith Show where Barney uses "Nip it! Nip
it in the bud!" I think he got the point. Then we reviewed five GRE vocabulary
words reviewing the definition, the part of speech, related words, anonyms and
synonyms and used each in a sentence. Sometimes
I would read the text aloud and other times AK read the text aloud. Finally, AK wrote his own sentence using the
vocabulary words. His ability to be a creative thinker and use the words well
was encouraging. We discussed his
sentences and made a few adjustments to a couple of them. His homework: to use
these idioms and words in real life.
